NDC questions EC over missing voter data ahead of 2024 elections

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed strong concerns about the Electoral Commission’s (EC) omission of critical voter data ahead of Ghana’s 2024 General Elections.

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, shared these concerns in a social media post, warning that the EC’s actions risk undermining the transparency and credibility of the election process.

Dr. Boamah criticized the EC’s refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the provisional voters register, a move the NDC had previously requested. He pointed out that discrepancies in the register had prompted the party’s demand for an audit, which the EC dismissed. “That forensic audit awaits the EC from January 2025,” he noted, adding that an IT system audit also remains unaddressed.

Dr. Boamah further detailed omissions in the final register presented by the EC, which lacked key data such as national and regional voter statistics, absentee voter data, gender breakdowns, and information on proxy voters. “By withholding these vital statistics, the Electoral Commission is casting further doubts and clouds over the transparency of the upcoming elections and threatening the legitimacy of the electoral outcome,” he stated.

The NDC has called on the EC to address these omissions promptly and provide the full statistical breakdown. Additionally, Dr. Boamah urged civil society, the media, and international observers to hold the EC accountable, stating, “Ghanaians deserve a transparent, free, and fair electoral process.”

The NDC’s demands come amid growing scrutiny of the EC’s actions, with calls for increased transparency to ensure the integrity of the upcoming elections.
