The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has decided to rejoin the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) after boycotting it since March 2021.
In a statement issued on January 28, 2024, the party expressed its optimism regarding the revitalization of IPAC and stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to strengthen Ghana’s electoral system.
The NDC expressed its confidence in the revival of IPAC, drawing inspiration from the effective consensus -building platform established during the leadership of Dr. Afari Djan and Charlotte Osei as Chairpersons of the Electoral Commission of Ghana. The party also emphasized its anticipation of collaborative endeavors that would enhance Ghana’s electoral system, benefiting not only individual political parties but also upholding the democratic values of the nation.
The IPAC meetings serve as a forum for political parties and the Electoral Commission to engage in dialogue and consultation.
In 2021, the NDC decided to boycott these meetings due to their dissatisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the 2020 general elections. They alleged that the elections were unfairly manipulated in favour of the ruling party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The NDC specifically accused Mrs Jean Mensa, the head of the Electoral Commission, of displaying bias and a lack of transparency.
