The Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Ms. Kathleen Addy says Ghanaians must guard the prevailing peace.
Speaking at a community engagement in Titiaka, part of the Kadjebi District in the Oti Region, she highlighted the necessity of peace, stating, “We want peace in Ghana, because we don’t have anywhere to go.”
The program, focused on Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE), and had support from the European Union. It aimed to promote peace, tolerance, and participation in combating violent extremism across 59 districts in Ghana’s Northern Border Regions.
Ms. Addy stressed the significance of unity, especially with the approaching 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary election, urging citizens to embrace dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution.

She underscored the need to respect diverse perspectives and rights while addressing misunderstandings kindly.
Mr. Setriakor Kwesi Gagakuma, Deputy Oti Regional Director of the NCCE, cautioned against the allure of violent extremist groups, particularly targeting youth, and advised community leaders to vet visitors to prevent access by terrorists.
Mr. Robert Kwesi Boame, the Oti Regional Director of the NCCE, warned of the real threat posed by terrorism, citing incidents in neighboring countries like Burkina Faso, Togo, and Nigeria.
He urged vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement to protect Ghana’s peace and security.
