The East Mamprusi Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the North East Region has engaged youth groups in Gambaga to promote social cohesion and prevent violent extremism.
The youth, drawn from various communities, were educated on peaceful coexistence, interfaith tolerance, the triggers and consequences of violent extremism, and strategies to resist radicalization and disinformation. The initiative is part of the EU-sponsored “Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE)” project, which the NCCE is implementing in the five northern regions and three adjoining regions.
Participants were introduced to peacebuilding mechanisms, early warning signs of extremism, and community-based strategies to counter arms proliferation.
Mr. Abdulai Abdul Mugis, East Mamprusi Municipal Director of the NCCE, emphasized the need to instill patriotism and civic responsibility in the youth, encouraging them to reject extremist activities and become ambassadors of peace.
Representatives from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and local educators also urged the youth to avoid violence, provide information to security agencies, and adopt non-violent approaches to resolving grievances, fostering a safer and more cohesive community.
