The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has distanced itself from a news publication in the Ghanaian Times suggesting the Commission has picked signals of attempts by extremists and jihadists to disrupt the 2024 general elections.
In a statement released, the NCCE clarified that neither its Chairperson, Ms. Kathleen Addy, nor any staff member made such claims. The Commission described the publication as untrue and noted that the reporter and media house have been informed of the error.
A formal rejoinder has been requested to correct the misinformation.
The NCCE urged the public, media, security agencies, and other stakeholders to disregard the report and view it as misinformation. It also reiterated its commitment to combating misinformation through public sensitization and emphasized the need for thorough fact-checking before sharing or publishing information.
The Commission reaffirmed its dedication to promoting peace and civic education ahead of the 2024 elections.
