Mr Richard Ahiagbah, the Communications Director of the NPP, has dismissed claims that the National Cathedral is nothing more than a pit and lacks legitimacy.
He emphasized that the ongoing development of the National Cathedral project should not be viewed as wasteful or problematic.
“I do not see any significant challenges. I do not perceive any waste because it is essential to excavate the pit before construction. Therefore, those who criticize us for building a pit without completing the structure should understand that it is only a matter of time before the cathedral takes shape,” he stated.
Originally planned for formal opening on March 6, according to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in the 2021 budget statement, the cathedral has faced criticism.
Mr Ahiagbah’s remarks were prompted by recent criticism, including a symbolic inauguration of the unfinished National Cathedral project by some Minority Members of Parliament, who pointed out what they perceived as the government’s failure to finish the project. He posted on his social media platforms that some individuals are attempting to belittle the noble endeavour of constructing a National Cathedral in honour of God. However, this is misguided because any construction project, especially one as grand as a National Cathedral, requires excavation as the foundation is crucial to the project’s success, hence the associated costs.
Mr Ahiagbah is confident that the Cathedral project is work in progress, and with perseverance, it will be completed.
