The Minister designate for the Ministry of Health
Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, has advocated for the introduction of a “Medical Week” during every Parliamentary session.

It is an initiative to conduct comprehensive health screening for Members of Parliament (MPs) to prevent the risk of sudden deaths among legislators.

Dr. Okoe Boye, a former MP for Ledzokuku Constituency in Greater Accra, suggested categorizing MPs’ health statuses into three groups: Red, Gold, and Green, enabling tailored care for those identified as at-risk individuals.

This was his proposal when he appeared before the Appointments Committee, where he addressed concerns about MPs’ health amidst their demanding work schedules.

Highlighting the financial challenges faced by former MPs in accessing healthcare, Dr. Okoe Boye proposed issuing special medical cards to them, allowing access to both primary and tertiary healthcare facilities, with associated costs covered by Parliament.
He emphasized the importance of preventing abuse of this privilege, urging for its continuation until the former MPs’ demise.

In addition to Dr. Okoe Boye’s proposal, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, the Minister designate for the Greater Accra Region, assured the Appointment’s Committee of his commitment to maintaining the cleanliness of the city.

He pledged to oversee inspection of roadside food vendors’ cooking areas, continuing the initiatives of his predecessors in ensuring public health and safety.
