Former President John Mahama has unveiled a comprehensive plan to combat corruption and restore public trust in government during a governance forum. He characterized corruption as a “canker” intertwined with poor governance, citing numerous scandals, including the PDS and Agyapa cases, as evidence of the administration’s failures.
In a clarion call for accountability,Mr. Mahama who is also the flagbearer of NDC proposed the establishment of an independent Governance Advisory Council, which would include representatives from various sectors to monitor governance and human rights. “Operation Recover-All-Loot (ORAL)” was introduced as a key initiative to investigate and recover stolen public funds, aiming to make corruption a high-risk endeavor.
Mr. Mahama’s commitment to transparency extends to governmental appointments and procurement processes, emphasizing the need for ethical leadership to improve the public sector’s responsiveness. He asserted that a vote for the NDC in the upcoming elections would signal a decisive shift towards accountability and good governance.
