At a National Peace Campaign organized by Ghana’s leading religious groups- including the Ghana Pentecostal & Charismatic Council, Christian Council of Ghana, Office of the National Chief Imam, Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, and the National Association of Charismatic Christian Churches-John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), reaffirmed their parties’ commitment to peace, justice, and unity as the country approaches its December elections.
Mr. Mahama conveyed a message grounded in the belief that peace must be built on justice, fairness, and mutual respect, emphasizing that a proactive stance on peacebuilding could mitigate conflicts that have recently plagued areas like Bawku.
He called for a society where every citizen feels secure and valued, pledging on behalf of the NDC to uphold dialogue, respect, and justice for all. “True peace cannot exist without justice,” he stated, expressing the party’s commitment to be a voice for the voiceless and to support a peace founded on equitable principles.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh, who represented Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, highlighted the NPP’s steadfast commitment to preserving Ghana’s peace and unity. He noted that Dr. Bawumia has long championed the need for a cohesive nation, free from religious or ethnic divides.
On behalf of Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Opoku Prempeh pledged that the NPP would honor the principles of democratic accountability and the rule of law, and confirmed the party’s intention to sign a peace pact as a tangible commitment to these ideals.
The gathering underscored a united call from both major parties to steer the nation through an election season rooted in mutual respect and stability.
