President John Mahama has nominated 71 individuals for the positions of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in eight regions, in line with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended.
A statement from the presidency on Wednesday, March 26, confirmed the nominations, which are subject to approval by the respective local assemblies.
The regional distribution of the nominations is as follows:
- Volta Region – 17 nominees for 18 districts
- Oti Region – 9 nominees for all 9 districts
- Ahafo Region – 6 nominees
- Bono Region – 10 nominees for all 10 districts
- Bono East Region – 9 nominees for all 9 districts
- Savannah Region – 5 nominees for all 5 districts
- North East Region – 6 nominees for all 6 districts
- Western North Region – 9 nominees for all 9 districts
The nominations cover only eight of Ghana’s 16 regions, with the presidency yet to announce appointments for the remaining regions.
