President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu as the Acting Government Statistician, pending consultations with the Council of State.
Dr. Iddrisu, a seasoned economist with over 20 years of experience, currently serves as the Director of the Economic Strategy and Research Division at the Ministry of Finance. In this role, he leads national efforts in macroeconomic analysis, forecasting, policy research, and coordination of assessments of Ghana’s real and external sectors.
His previous positions include Director of the Economic Research and Forecasting Division from 2013 to 2019, where he oversaw macroeconomic modeling and long-term forecasting, and Acting Director of the Real Sector Division between 2010 and 2013, focusing on sectoral growth and productivity trends.
Dr. Iddrisu holds a PhD in International Development Studies from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo, Japan, and a Master of Public Administration in Public and Economic Policy from the London School of Economics. He also earned an MPhil in Economics and a BA in Economics with French from the University of Ghana. Beyond academia, he has consulted for international organizations such as Oxfam GB and the World Bank.
As Acting Government Statistician, Dr. Iddrisu will lead the Ghana Statistical Service, playing a pivotal role in data-driven policymaking and national development planning. His appointment is expected to strengthen Ghana’s statistical systems and support evidence-based governance.
