Ghanaian musician Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru, has been elected President of the University of Ghana’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC). His victory comes after a challenging campaign marked by legal disputes and disqualification issues.
Guru, and his running mate Jeffery Adu-Yeboah, secured 50.7% of the vote, totaling 9,455 out of 18,659 ballots cast. This result reflects a significant endorsement from the student body, despite a contentious pre-election period.
The election faced delays due to an interlocutory injunction and issues with the release of voting links, which pushed the voting period from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Additionally, there was considerable legal drama involving Guru’s eligibility. Initially, he faced disqualification due to his non-resident status, a decision challenged and ultimately overturned by the Appeals Board.
Despite the initial legal hurdles and a temporary injunction, the election proceeded smoothly, leading to Guru’s triumph.
