Arrivals into the country exceeded pre-COVID 19 levels by 110 percent in 2023 and the Ghana Tourism Authority – GTA attributes this success to its Strategic Recovery Initiatives, such as the December in GH, Afrochella, and other events contributing significantly to the gains. The launch of the 2023 Tourism Report in Accra, shared more details on this development.
Annual publication of the Tourism Report started in 2019. Section 3 of the Tourism Act 2011, Act 817 mandates the Authority to collect, compile and publish information and statiscs relating to activities under the Act. The findings presented by GTA’s Director of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Spencer Doku, indicated the popular “See Ghana, Wear Ghana, Feel Ghana” compaign catapulted the strides.
The Chief Executive of GTA, Mr. Akwasi Agyemang, said the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park has been the most-visited after the renovation, compared to some tourist destinations.
He said GTA is working to phase off multiplicity of taxes and others to promote the industry. For the Youth participation in the industry, a Lecturer of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at UCC, Professor Issahaku, encouraged the students to take an interest in it.
