Gregory Afoko has been granted bail to the tune of GHc 500,000 with two sureties to be justified.
He has been on remand since his arrest in 2015 over the alleged killing of late Upper East chairman of the NPP, Adam Mahama.
Gregory Afoko’s trial travelled from 2015 to 2019 where the state entered a Nolle Prosequi into the case but re-arrested him.
The termination then was on the ground that a second accused person on the run had been arrested.
The trial resumed in 2019 and concluded in 2023. The jury on the trial however returned a hung verdict on both counts of murder and conspiracy to commit murder against Gregory Afoko. The court thus ordered a retrial for Gregory Afoko.
He was re-arrested after the proceedings and denied bail.
But on Friday, his lawyers moved the application urging the court to grant him bail pending trial.
The judge granted the plea to the tune of 500,000 cedis with two sureties. The surerities are supposed to have fixed places of abode with one of them having a landed property.
