The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation has directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to take immediate enforcement action against six entities operating without valid frequency authorizations.

The affected stations include:

  • Fire Group of Companies, Sunyani (90.1MHz)
  • I-Zar Consult Limited, Tamale (89.7MHz)
  • Abochannel Media Group, Adidome (105.7MHz)
  • Okyeame Radio Limited, Bibiani (99.7MHz)
  • Mumen Bono Foundation, Techiman (99.7MHz)
  • Osikani Community FM, Nkrankwanta (99.7MHz)

According to the ministry, these entities failed to renew their authorizations, meet statutory payment obligations, or submit the required documentation within the stipulated timeframe. As a result, their licenses have lapsed, rendering their continued operations illegal under Section 2(4) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775).

The NCA has been instructed to halt all unauthorized transmissions and enforce compliance with the law. The ministry further warned all broadcasting entities to adhere to their licensing conditions to avoid similar enforcement measures.

Meanwhile, the government has also ordered the immediate shutdown of Gumah FM in Bawku over national security concerns.

The decision follows an emergency meeting of the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) on February 11, 2025, which reviewed intelligence reports alleging that the station had been used to incite violence and disrupt public order.

Citing Act 775, the ministry noted that the NCA has the mandate to revoke or suspend frequency authorizations in the interest of national security and public order. The directive also includes continued monitoring to prevent alternative platforms from being used to propagate violence in the area.

The government has urged all media organizations to operate responsibly and in strict compliance with broadcasting regulations to safeguard public safety and national stability.
