What we need is a fresh crop of faces at the Finance Ministry, the Director of International Relations for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr.  Alex Segbefia has said.

According to him, the perception out there is that the finance minister and his team are responsible for the economic woes of the country hence the need for new faces at the ministry.

“We have personal friends in the finance ministry, we know them but when the country is in this dire situation it’s important to put a new face at that ministry for people to see that something new will be coming on board,” he stressed.

Speaking on the morning show of a based Television station, TV3 today, Mr Segbefia stated that the Finance Minister has for 7 years told Ghanaians things which they have not been able to live up to hence the perception that they are responsible for the economic problems of the country.

“We were told that we are not going to be taxing, taxes are not Good. The way we have behaved, we should be looking more at production. What has happened now?” he queried.

He added that the Russia-Ukraine war has no effect on the ongoing financial haircuts Ghanaians were suffering but its as a result of the nation’s debt portfolio.

“Everybody knows the amount of money we have borrowed and the reason why other countries were not feeling the pinch as much as we are is they don’t have the kind of debt portfolio we have and even if they do they have a revenue base stream that can service it,” he explained.
