Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy, Herbert Krapa, has revealed that consultations are ongoing to finalize the proposed merger between the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) and the Energy Commission of Ghana.
The merger aims to streamline regulatory functions, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency in overseeing Ghana’s energy sector. Industry experts, including the Institute for Energy Security, support the plan, citing benefits like cost savings and improved regulation.
Mr. Krapa emphasized that the government’s priority is achieving an efficient regulator, whether through merging the two bodies or maintaining their separation, based on stakeholder feedback.
