Ejisu Constituency is ready to go to the polls tomorrow in a by-election that is being closely watched by political analysts and the general public. The by-election was necessitated after the death of the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), John Ampontuah Kumah in March,2024.

The Notice of Poll published by the EC ahead of the exercise indicated that there were six candidates who were contesting the by-election. They are three independent candidates and three political parties.

The independent candidates are a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for the area and former Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, Gabriel Agyemang Joseph and Attakorah Joseph.

The candidates for the political parties are Esther Osei of the CPP; Kwabena Boateng of the NPP and Beatrice Boakye of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG). Esther Osei (CPP), occupies the number one position on the ballot paper, Kwabena Boateng (NPP), number two; Beatrice Boakye (LPG), three; Kwabena Owusu Aduomi (Independent), four; Gabriel Agyemang Joseph (Independent), five, and Attakorah Joseph (Independent), number six.

The NPP hopes to retain the seat, which it has held since 2016. The by-election is being seen as a test of the popularity of the NPP government, which is facing economic challenges. NPP has been campaigning on its record of development in the Ejisu Constituency.

106,812 registered voters are expected to cast their ballot in 204 polling stations across the constituency.
