The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced a change in its printing arrangements for the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary election ballots, stating that Yasarko Press, originally tasked with printing ballots for the Oti and Western North Regions, will no longer be handling the assignment due to a technical fault in its equipment.
In a release, EC Deputy Chairman for Operations Samuel Tettey noted, “The speculation by the National Democratic Congress’ Director of Elections and Information Technology that the Electoral Commission engaged a printing house with questionable capacity is NOT TRUE.”
He added that the EC “acted swiftly by reallocating the Oti and Western North regions’ Ballot Papers to Buck Press and Acts Commercials respectively,” underscoring that this reallocation is not expected to impact the election timeline.
Yasarko Press, which has printed ballots for the EC since 1998, informed the commission earlier this week of a fault in critical machinery required for the ballot printing process. The EC and Yasarko mutually agreed on the decision for Yasarko to withdraw from the task, prompting the reallocation.
The Commission confirmed that all political parties and independent candidates were notified of the change, emphasizing its commitment to a transparent election process.
