The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed the destruction of excess electoral materials for the Ahafo and Volta regions, including scrap ballot papers and printing plates used for the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The materials were burned on Saturday, November 16, 2024, under strict supervision. The process was witnessed by agents of political parties, the National Intelligence Bureau, National Security, the Ghana Police Service, and representatives of the Electoral Commission.
In a statement, Deputy Chairperson Samuel Tettey disclosed that the EC will provide a full account of all printed ballot papers for the two regions. These will also be destroyed due to issues with serial numbers, ensuring transparency and integrity in the electoral process.
The Commission assured political parties and stakeholders that they will be invited to observe the upcoming destruction of the affected ballot papers. A certificate confirming the destruction of the excess materials has been issued.
The EC reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections ahead of the December polls.
