The Public Relations Officer of National Road Safety Authority, Pearl Adusa Sateckla is attributing the habitual fatal accidents on the Accra- Kumasi highway to indiscipline on the part of drivers, reckless driving and excessive speeding.

According to her, during an inspection by the Road Safety Inspectors, the highway was intact, thus any accident could have been avoided if the drivers were attentive.

In an interview, Madam Sateckla said Greater Accra has higher road accident statistics due to the high population.

However, she stated that, in terms of fatalities, the Ashanti region sometimes overtakes Greater Accra as a result of the excessive speeding rate leading to deaths of those involved in the road crashes.

Her reaction is in response to the head-on collision between two vehicles on the Kumasi-Accra highway which caused the deaths of 21 people, while others sustained injuries.

This instance occurred on Friday night inolving a Sprinter bus and a mini-bus on the Breku stretch in the Ashanti Region.

Mrs. Adusa Sateckla further called for a collaboration between the National Road Safety Authority and other stakeholders to promote road safety.

Moreover, she advocated for dualisation of roads, saying if that stretch was dualised, the head-on collision would not have happened.

In addition, She called on law enforcers to step up the compliance of the law on our roads through the introduction of technology to prevent drivers from misbehaving knowing that the images will be used as evidence against them and punished according to the law.

She then adviced that, as we enter the Easter period, drivers, passengers, hawkers, pedestrians, etc, should be patient and concentrate on the road.
