An Accra High Court has adjourned the hearing of a bail application for eight remanded protestors to October 7, 2024. The original hearing date was set for today, but the protestors’ legal counsel sought an earlier date through an Abridgement of Time.
On September 30, the Attorney General’s department requested more time to study the case. The court granted this request until today.
The AG argued that the bail application lacked the charge sheet and Circuit Court proceedings that previously denied bail. The protestors’ counsel countered that the AG already possessed the charge sheet but the AG maintained that the Circuit Court’s proceedings were outside their jurisdiction.
The protestors’ counsel requested a one-hour adjournment to gather the necessary documents, which the court denied. Ultimately, the court sided with the State and adjourned to the original date, just one day before the remand order expires.
