At the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa, leaders reaffirmed their commitment to tackle the existential threat posed by climate change and emphasized the need for global collaboration on sustainable development initiatives.
Under the 2024 Apia Commonwealth Ocean Declaration, members highlighted the critical priority of addressing sea-level rise, particularly for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) at the frontline of climate impacts.
The Commonwealth pledged to limit global warming to 1.5°C, in line with the Paris Agreement.
The meeting also underscored the need for inclusive, ethical digitalization, with a focus on harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for sustainable development across the Commonwealth. Leaders committed to a roadmap for digital education and innovation aimed at fostering growth and addressing disparities in digital access.
