Chairman of National Peace Council criticizes parenting approach that shields young people from hardship
The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, is not happy with the parenting approach that aims at shielding young people from hard work.
He complained that the approach on the part of some parents is raising a crop of young people who are not used to going the extra mile or breaking their backs to earn a living.
This he said is breeding a ‘get-rich-quick’ attitude on the part of the youth rather than focusing their energies on hard work to earn a living.
“We are raising a crop of young people who are not used to hardship. I see young people start work today and they want to own a car. It does not happen like that”, he lamented.
In an interview with RGG NEWS’ Teye Kitcher, Dr. Adu-Gyamfi attributed the ‘get-rich-quick’ attitude among the youth to the ‘prosperity messages’ delivered at the various churches.
He said although those messages are good, many of these Men of God fail to add the condition that comes with prosperity which is hard work.
“I believe in prosperity but not the kind of prosperity being channeled. I believe hard work pays”, he said.
