The General Secretary of the NDC, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey is asking that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia apologize to the Ghanaian people for his administration’s alleged deceit and economic mismanagement.
At a media briefing on Wednesday, 14th February 2024 Mr Kwetey said Dr Bawumia should actually prove to the people of Ghana that he is a changed person advising him to join hands with the NDC to administer change.
“Our advice to the Vice President is that if he has indeed turned a new leaf and has seen the light, like Saul on his way to Damascus, he should show genuine contrition by first apologising to Ghanaians and then join the NDC to scrap these taxes now and not in the future,” he stated.
The NDC questioned Dr Bawumia’s credibility and trustworthiness, pointing to a series of broken promises and policy failures. They challenged Dr Bawumia’s recent pledge to scrap certain taxes, calling it a veiled attempt to deceive voters ahead of the upcoming elections.
Highlighting Dr Bawumia’s past statements on economic fundamentals, job creation, and infrastructure development, the NDC debated that his track record undermined his current promises.
The Party also criticized Dr Bawumia’s role in implementing controversial policies such as the E-levy and VAT increases.
”Should we remind him that Ghanaians still remember his instrumental role in crafting the obnoxious E-levy policy, as was confirmed publicly by the then Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, and Mr. John Boadu, their former General Secretary?” he asked.
Fifi Kwetey further argued that “A man whose words cannot be trusted, is a man who is not fit to lead.”
