The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin has urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to prioritize their legislative duties while managing their campaign responsibilities as the 2024 general election approaches.
During the 5th meeting of the Fourth Session on October 15, Rt. Hon. Bagbin emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on legislative responsibilities, especially with pressing national issues at hand. While acknowledging the demands of the campaign season and the time and energy MPs must invest in securing their seats for the upcoming elections, he emphasized that the legislative agenda remains a priority.
“The legislative agenda ahead is weighty and we must approach it with the seriousness it demands. Bills such as the Environmental Protection Bill, Parliamentary Service Bill, and Parliamentary Transition Bill need timely debate and decisions,” Rt. Hon. Bagbin stated.
He concluded, “While campaigning is demanding, it is critical that we balance these efforts with our legislative responsibilities.”
