NPP Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, took to X (formerly Twitter) to extol President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s transformative impact on Ghana’s health sector, calling it the most significant since the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) by former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
“President Akufo-Addo has done the most for health and healthcare delivery since President Kufuor’s introduction of the NHIS in 2003,” Ahiagbah stated, pointing to the President’s remarks at the Indonesia-Africa Forum in Bali, where Akufo-Addo emphasized, “A healthy population is not just a moral imperative; it is an economic necessity.”
Ahiagbah highlighted how the administration’s focus on health aligns with the World Health Organization’s One-Health Framework and the Health-In-All Approach, which have been integrated into Ghana’s 2020 Revised National Health Policy. “These policy frameworks find expression in the diligent implementation by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia Administration to improve the health and well-being of all Ghanaians,” he stated.
The NPP’s spokesperson detailed the achievements under President Akufo-Addo, noting, “The impact of President Akufo-Addo’s investments in the health sector is manifest.” He enumerated the completion of seven hospital projects inherited from the NDC, the completion of nine Kufuor Euroget hospitals, and the initiation and completion of 37 new projects, including Phase II of the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC). He also mentioned ongoing projects such as the 750-bed Maternity and Children’s Block at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the historic Agenda 111 hospitals.
Ahiagbah urged Ghanaians to consider these accomplishments as the December 7th elections approach. He emphasized the importance of electing a leader on December 7th who will continue to build on the investments in the health sector to improve the well-being of Ghanaians.
He reserved particular praise for the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as the right leader to continue and expand these healthcare initiatives. “Dr. Bawumia has demonstrated a firm commitment in the NPP’s 2024 Manifesto to sustain and increase health sector investments. A vote for Dr. Bawumia is a vote for your health,” he concluded, emphasizing, “Dr. Bawumia means business, so let’s vote for him to deliver for Ghanaians.”
