President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been honoured with the Atlantic Council Global Citizen Award during the ongoing United Nations General Assembly in New York City. In his acceptance speech, he dedicated the award to all Ghanaians, underscoring their collective hope for a brighter future amid ongoing challenges.
Reaffirming his commitment to the values of democracy, justice, and global collaboration, the President remarked that these principles will continue to guide his leadership as he approaches the end of his presidential term. “I accepted this award on behalf of every Ghanaian, whose unwavering belief in a brighter future keeps us pushing forward,” he stated.
During the “Summit of the Future: Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow,” also held alongside the UN General Assembly, President Akufo-Addo called for urgent and unified action to confront pressing global issues, including climate change, inequality, and the necessity for reform within the UN Security Council. He highlighted the disproportionate impact of climate change on Africa, which, despite contributing the least to global emissions, is facing the most significant challenges. “No nation can tackle these issues alone -we must stand together in solidarity,” he urged.
In his concluding remarks, the President emphasized the need for a collective commitment to building a more just and equitable future, stating, “Let us seize this moment and commit to building a more just and equitable future for all.”
