President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed firm confidence in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as a capable and visionary leader prepared to steer Ghana to greater heights.
Addressing a gathering of professional groups in Kumasi on Sunday, November 24, the President lauded Dr. Bawumia’s governance experience and urged Ghanaians to rally behind his presidential campaign. He emphasized that Dr. Bawumia is well-equipped to build on the achievements of the current administration and deliver meaningful progress for the nation.
Highlighting the importance of the Ashanti Region to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) electoral success, President Akufo-Addo called for unity and strong voter turnout in the region to secure victory in the 2024 elections. He warned against repeating what he termed the “mistake of 2008,” when the NPP lost power, and urged full support for Dr. Bawumia’s bid.
The President also criticized former President John Dramani Mahama, asserting that his previous administration was unsuccessful and that he does not merit another term. He pointed out that of Ghana’s past presidents, Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, and himself all except Mr. Mahama secured a second term, which he attributed to a lackluster performance during Mr. Mahama’s tenure.
“We have two candidates in this race: one, a failed president, and the other, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Of all the leaders Ghana has had, the only one not given a second term was John Dramani Mahama, and the reason is simple he did a poor job,” the President stated.
President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to embrace Dr. Bawumia’s vision for development and ensure a decisive NPP victory in the upcoming elections.
