Ahiagbah dismisses NDC’s election rigging allegations as baseless

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly refuted allegations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) suggesting a plot to rig the upcoming December elections. Richard Ahiagbah, the NPP’s Director of Communications, described the claims as unfounded and an attempt by the NDC to divert attention from its underperforming campaign.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Ahiagbah asserted that the NDC’s accusations lack merit and are part of a calculated effort to mislead Ghanaians. “The NDC’s allegation of a grand NPP plot to rig or create mayhem is vain and lacks merit. Rather than mislead Ghanaians, the NDC should admit its campaign is not going well, and they know defeat is imminent,” he said.

He further accused the opposition party of using scare tactics to justify alleged plans to instigate violence. “This is simply a design to scare Ghanaians and justify the violence they’re plotting themselves,” Mr. Ahiagbah added, citing a video purportedly showing NDC youth in Obuasi threatening violence.

The NPP spokesperson also emphasized his party’s commitment to upholding peace and democratic values, highlighting the stark difference between the NPP and the NDC. “The NPP is not a violent party. The NPP does not have revolutionary roots as the NDC. The NPP is committed to peace and will do its part to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections on December 7th.”

This counterstatement follows the NDC’s earlier claims accusing a senior military officer of scheming to disrupt the polls in favour of the ruling party.
