As Ghana approaches the 2024 elections, Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has underscored the importance of a leader who prioritizes the health of the nation.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ahiagbah emphasized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s commitment to transforming the healthcare sector, focusing on expanding access to quality care and improving conditions for healthcare workers across the country.
“Dr. Bawumia is committed to putting the health of Ghanaians first by expanding access to quality care. Bawumia would complete the historic Agenda 111 hospitals, recruit more healthcare workers, deepen the implementation of telehealth, and accelerate the networking of all hospitals to centralize patient data,” Ahiagbah stated.
He further highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s plans to invest in training health sector professionals to boost capacity and expertise, improve health outcomes, and implement an incentive regime to drive specializations in areas where expertise is currently lacking. This, he believes, would enhance overall job satisfaction for health sector workers.
Reflecting on a personal experience, Ahiagbah shared that he recently spent weeks in a hospital bed at Komfo Anokye following a traumatic accident. During his stay, he observed the remarkable dedication and sacrifices made by healthcare professionals under challenging circumstances. This experience reinforced his belief in the need for a leader who would prioritize the well-being of healthcare workers.
“As we approach the 2024 elections, I recommend we elect a president who will prioritize the needs of our healthcare workers by improving their working conditions, investing in their professional development, and addressing the age-old exodus of health professionals from Ghana,” Ahiagbah urged.
He also reiterated Dr. Bawumia’s commitment as outlined in the NPP’s 2024 manifesto, stating that “A vote for Bawumia is a vote for the betterment of our healthcare system and the people who sustain it. Bawumia is the choice of healthcare workers and the choice for a healthier Ghana.”
