Independent presidential candidate Alan John Kyerematen last Thursday, announced a strategic partnership with the National Interest Movement, led by former Convention People’s Party (CPP) flagbearer Abu Sakara, ahead of the 2024 election.

This collaboration, operating under the banner ‘Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC),’ outlined the objectives of the Alliance, which is scheduled for official launch on Wednesday, April 17.

The primary goal of the ARC is to rally Ghanaians from diverse backgrounds, with a particular emphasis on engaging the youth and women, to elect the first independent candidate as President of Ghana.

The question on the lips of political fanatics is whether Abu Sakara and Alan Kyetemaren’s alliance will be the vanguard of a New Third Force in Ghanaian Politics?

The Acting Director of Communications for the Movement for Change (MFC), Courage Nobi, in an interview with RGG News said the alliance will bring renewed hope to many Ghanaians who had almost given up on having any credible alternative with candidates of substance in the 2024 elections.

“With the foundation laid for the Alliance, we aim to engage our associate members and sister organizations, inviting them to join us in this significant coalition dedicated to Ghana’s transformation. This Alliance promises renewed hope for many Ghanaians who had nearly lost faith in finding credible alternatives with substantial candidates in the 2024 elections.”

He said the Movement for Change has an agenda not to only be the third force in Ghana’s political landmark but also aims to topple the two major political parties [NPP and NDC].

He believes, looking at the campaign so far and the work done, the Movement for Change can obtain 20 per cent of the election results hence the need to go into alliance with other groups to ensure that they win the election.

Addressing issues on a possible partner to Alan Kyeremateng on the Presidency slate, Mr. Nobi said the alliance is not in the rush to select a running mate. He added that although there is an alliance with National Interest Movement, its leader [Abu Sakara] is not wishing to be the running mate but rather interested in helping the alliance capture power.

“The Alliance has several personalities of substance and renown that can partner Alan Kyerematen on the Presidency slate. It is not the focus of the alliance at this time. For now, we want to introduce Ghanaians to the Alliance, its purpose, immediate objectives and prospects for the 2024 general election,” he stated.

For his part, Political Scientist, Dr. Kwame Asa Asante says the new alliance formed could push the December 7 Presidential election into a runoff if they can rally Ghanaians to vote for them.

Speaking to RGG’s Agyenim-Boateng Adjaye, Dr. Asa Asante noted that the two are all familiar with the issues confronting the country and they have what it takes to lead any group worth its salt.

“I am confident that they are a formidable force. I have no doubt that they will eventually unite and progress forward to achieve their goals.

For me, Alan is a giant. If you look at Ashanti Region, Central Region, Eastern Region, I have no doubt that he can cause a stir there. Abu Sakara, another fantastic man who has ideas who can also articulate his ideas clearly has full knowledge of what is happening in this country. So the two, if they are able to tie their apron strings together they can cause an upset. Not an upset to win the election but if they get the support of other political parties and they also perform creditably well they can also push the election to a second round,” he said.
