President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated “The Bank Square”, the new headquarters of the Bank of Ghana, located in central Accra. The state-of-the-art facility, described as an “architectural masterpiece,” is celebrated as a symbol of Ghana’s financial resilience and its aspirations for a sustainable future.
President Akufo-Addo praised the eco-friendly and innovative design of the building, which he said reflects the country’s ambition to compete in a dynamic global economy. He highlighted recent economic milestones, including a provisional GDP growth of 6.9% in the second quarter of 2024, robust non-oil growth of 7.0%, and a significant reduction in inflation from 54.1% in 2022 to 22.1% as of October 2024.
Dr. Ernest Addison, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, described The Bank Square as “a bold statement of the Bank’s enduring presence and authority in the financial landscape.” He emphasized the building’s symbolism, likening its durable stone facade to ancient monuments that convey permanence and resilience.

Standing at 100 meters, The Bank Square is Ghana’s tallest building and the most sustainable EDGE Advanced structure of its size in the sub-region. Dr. Addison noted its reliance on harvested solar energy and cutting-edge features, such as a currency museum, public banking facilities, a 1,500-seat auditorium, and rooftop terraces. Despite its scale and innovations, the project was achieved at a lower cost per square meter than comparable projects in Accra, he added.
President Akufo-Addo commended the Bank of Ghana’s leadership and local partners, including GoldKey Properties, for their efforts in delivering the landmark project. He called for continued collaboration to sustain the country’s economic recovery.
“The Bank Square is not just a symbol of what we have accomplished; it is an inspiration for what lies ahead,” the president said.
The inauguration was attended by dignitaries, financial sector leaders, and stakeholders, marking a milestone in Ghana’s economic transformation.
