In a Facebook post, Kofi Bentil, Vice President of IMANI AFRICA, is asking the Scholarship Secretariat to publish names of all scholarship recipients every year.
He believes that no one has a right to privacy if they rely on tax for their foreign education.
Mr. Bentil’s remarks are in response to public outrage sparked by an investigative report conducted by the 4th Estate, which exposed discrepancies in the allocation and status of beneficiaries of government scholarships.
“Publish names of All recipients of scholarships every year. No one has a right to privacy if they rely on tax for their foreign education. If you don’t want to be known don’t take it”, he wrote.
The investigative piece by the 4th Estate exposed the critical lack of transparency, accountability and fairness in the distribution of educational scholarship opportunities in Ghana, and how the wards of wealthy and highly connected individuals ended up being awarded scholarships meant for needy but brilliant students.
