The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) says it has strengthened its emergency preparedness for effective response to flooding across the country as the rains begin.
It said the organisation’s rescue and operation teams are ready and on standby to immediately assist flood victims and help them to safety.
In an interview with RGG News, Mr George Ayisi, the Communication Director at NADMO said despite being on alert as an organization, the general public must take precautionary measures.
As a safety measure, he stressed the importance of residents in flood-prone areas relocating to safer
areas to avoid the destructive consequences of floods.
“It is crucial for the public to proactively relocate to safer areas before the peak of the rainy season. I urge everyone to stay informed through updates from the Meteorological Service and take appropriate action,” he emphasized.
Mr. Ayisi noted that as part of the preventive measures implemented, NADMO had conducted community awareness programs to educate the populace about flood risks.
He mentioned that in addition to having rescue and response teams on standby, the organization had received relief supplies to support its operations during this period.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned of increased winds, thunderstorms, and lightning leading up to the onset of the main rainy season.
It says there will be occasional light rains even when clouds form, advising the public to seek shelter in safe places during this period.
