The Government says the Tema Motorway Roundabout interchange phase II project is iconic, and of both domestic and international importance. On his first official working visit to the site, the new Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, said the government will do its part to ensure the project is completed ahead of its schedule, to ease traffic congestion and to make movement within the enclave easier.Phase I of the project known as “The Project for Improvement of Ghanaian International Corridors” commenced on July 27, 2018, completed in April 2020 and inaugurated on June 5, 2020. The Japanese grant of 55.6 million dollars for phase I consists of a one-hundred and ninety kilometre underpass, linking the Aflao-

Accra direction of the road, as well as other other provisions. “The Project for the Improvement of Tema Motorway Roundabout Phase II” comes with the construction of the third-tier flyover in the South-North direction, that is the Tema Harbour-Akosombo direction to separate through traffic from the left turning traffic to enhance urban mobility and logistics in the Greater-Accra region, as well as the regional corridor.

After the inspection, the Roads Minister, Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, said getting the project complete is government’s priority, necessitating his visit.

The about twenty-seven million dollar phase II and final project was awarded in June 2022, with work starting in July the same year. It is expected to be completed before the year ends. Its completion is expected to end the traffic jam at the roundabout, and also improve economic activities within the ECOWAS Sub-region.
