The National Chairman of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Nana Ofori Owusu, says the pervasive practice of appointing family and friends to influential positions within the Nana Addo led government has undermined the principles of meritocracy and is eroding the rule of law.

He said these appointments have not yielded any progress in the life of Ghanaians but rather brought untold hardship on the ordinary Ghanaians and further segregated the country on partisan lines.

“If you are not one of them, you can not own a bank, an insurance company, a mining company, gas and oil company, a radio station, and many more”, he said.

Speaking at a news conference in Accra on Tuesday, Nana Ofori Owusu, said Ghanaians, must not succumb to the despair they find themselves.

“We have faith that the NPP will eventually step down, offering a glimmer of hope for a better Ghana”, he assured.

According to him, the PPP when given an opportunity to lead this country, will restore to Ghanaians hope and confidence.

“We have faith that the NPP will eventually step down, offering a glimmer of hope for a better Ghana”, he assured.

According to him, the PPP when given an opportunity to lead this country, will restore to Ghanaians hope and confidence.

He said the PPP will prioritize the consumption of locally produced goods to boost the economy, support indigenous businesses, and champion inclusiveness, particularly in empowering women.

He added that under the PPP’s leadership, they will ensure that all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) are elected by the people, allowing for greater accountability and representation.

“We want all MMDCEs and all Assembly Members elected by the people directly and the associated national revenues moved from the center to the assemblies.”

“We will also prioritize the completion of unfinished projects and streamline the government budget”, he opined.

He alleged that the Nana Addo – Bawumia administration has resorted to selling and collateralizing national assets, such as lithium, gold, and cocoa, which compromises the economic stability of the country.

“We cannot keep silent while this government auction and collateralize everything belonging to Ghana”, he said.

Nana Ofori Owusu called on Ghanaians to join the PPP and form a new alliance that will rescue the country from the NPP.

“It is time for us, as a united people, to rise against oppression and nepotism, and rid ourselves of the dark leadership of the NPP”, he stated.

Nana Ofori Owusu encouraged all Ghanaians to join the PPP by dialling *931# to become members, as they collectively strive for a brighter and corruption-free Ghana.

In an interview with RGGNEWS, the 2020 presidential candidate for the PPP, Ms. Bridget Dzorgbenuku, emphasized that the current state of the nation is as a result of Ghanaians relinquishing their power to political parties.

She called for a bipartisan approach to politics and advocated for greater female representation in Ghanaian politics.

She also urged parliament to expedite proceedings on the Affirmative Action Bill.
