The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has dismissed reports claiming it has frozen the bank accounts of Richard Nii Armah Quaye, founder of Bills Micro Credit Ltd, and imposed a GH₵30 million personal income tax assessment on him.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Authority clarified that while an assessment has been raised on Mr. Quaye regarding his income taxes, no enforcement action, including account garnishment, has been taken against him.
GRA explained that its standard procedure involves engaging taxpayers to assess their earnings, requesting voluntary declarations, and issuing tax assessments when necessary. Enforcement actions, such as freezing bank accounts, are only applied when a taxpayer fails to cooperate.
The Authority urged the public to disregard the reports circulating on social media and called on taxpayers to voluntarily declare their incomes and fulfill their tax obligations to avoid penalties.
GRA reiterated its commitment to fairness and adherence to due process in its tax administration.
