The Minority in Parliament has accused the Attorney General of overstepping his mandate by allegedly directing security agencies to conduct politically motivated raids and investigations against former government officials.
Addressing the media, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Second Deputy Minority Whip, questioned the Attorney General’s involvement in ordering raids and overseeing investigations, arguing that his role should be confined to providing legal guidance after investigations are completed. The Minority claimed the Attorney General was acting as both investigator and prosecutor, a situation it described as a clear conflict of interest that undermines judicial integrity.
According to the Minority, the Attorney General’s approach raises concerns about fairness, as it gives the impression of pre-determined guilt before cases reach the courts.
Mr. Shaib called on all stakeholders to resist what he described as an abuse of power. The Minority reaffirmed its commitment to defending the rule of law and urged security agencies to act independently and professionally, free from political influence.
