President John Dramani Mahama has announced that allowances for nursing and teacher trainees will now be disbursed directly by the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) to ensure regular and timely payments.
Speaking in Tamale during his “Thank You Tour” on Saturday, March 22, President Mahama said the new arrangement would address the persistent delays that have frustrated trainees for years.
“This has been made a part of the compensation item in the budget, and this will permanently eliminate delays in trainees receiving their allowances,” he stated. “It means that anytime public sector workers receive their salaries, teacher and nursing trainees will also receive their allowances.”
The announcement comes as a relief to thousands of trainees who have struggled with erratic payments, often waiting months for stipends that cover essential costs such as transportation, feeding, and study materials.
President Mahama engaged with students, professionals, and community leaders during the event, highlighting other policy initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods, including plans to provide free sanitary pads for girls in schools and complete major infrastructure projects like the Eastern Corridor Road.
He also expressed gratitude to the people of the Northern Region for their support in the December elections.
