The Ghana Police Service has issued a statement refuting claims circulating on social media that Elrad Salifu Amoako, a 16-year-old driver who was recently implicated in a tragic incident, is not currently detained at the Osu Correctional Centre as mandated by a court order.

Following a ruling on November 1, 2024, the court directed that Amoako be remanded in custody at the facility, and the police confirmed that he remains there as of this morning. The police emphasized that allegations suggesting otherwise are false and constitute an offense under section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), of the publication of false news.

In their pursuit of accountability, the police have identified two social media accounts allegedly involved in spreading this misinformation: a TikTok user named “prisywanlovl” and a Facebook user with the handle “EmpressPapa A-Amigos.” Investigations are underway to track down the individuals behind these accounts and hold them accountable.

The police expressed concern over the exploitation of a tragic incident that resulted in the loss of two lives, urging the public to refrain from such unGhanaian behavior. They called for respect for the grieving families, emphasizing the need for compassion in these challenging times.

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to upholding the law and ensuring that justice prevails while imploring citizens to verify information before sharing it on social media.
