Professor Oboade Notse King Odaifio Welentsi III, the Nungua Mantse, has been elected President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs (GARHC). Prior to this, he served as both Vice President and Acting President of the House, stepping into the latter role after the passing of the Paramount Chief of the Shai Osudoku Traditional Area.

Originally, the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, had filed to contest for the presidency but later withdrew, allowing Professor Welentsi III to run unopposed. He will serve a four-year term as President, with elections for this position held every four years under Act 759 of 2008.

Nene Tetteh Wakah III, the Paramount Chief of the Prampram Traditional Area, has been elected as Vice President. Both leaders took their oaths of office and secrecy, administered by Circuit Court Judge Ms. Bacilia Adjei-Tawiah. The judge urged them to foster peace and development during their term and to avoid entangling chieftaincy matters in litigation.

In his acceptance remarks, Professor Welentsi III expressed gratitude for his election, describing it as “a victory for all” and a shared responsibility to serve the community.

He acknowledged the support he would seek from fellow chiefs and pledged to honor his predecessor’s contributions while introducing new ideas to advance the work of the House. He also offered a heartfelt apology for any past offenses and emphasized his commitment to continuous improvement.
