A High Court in Accra has dismissed the lawsuit filed by Bernard Mornah challenging the Electoral Commission’s (EC) disqualification of his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election.
In a ruling delivered on Monday, October 21, Justice Richard Apietu stated that Mornah’s claims were unfounded. The presidential aspirant for the People’s National Convention (PNC) contended that the EC failed to specify the reasons for his disqualification and did not allow him the opportunity to rectify alleged mistakes in his nomination forms.
However, the court referenced a letter from the EC dated September 13, 2024, which detailed several anomalies in Mornah’s nomination, including alleged forged signatures and incorrect voter identification numbers. The EC had provided Mornah the chance to correct these issues and resubmit his forms on the same day.
Justice Apietu emphasized that once notified of the anomalies, Mornah had a responsibility to address the errors. He stated, “The court ought not to grant the application for judicial review. The application is refused and accordingly dismissed.”
