Former Foreign Minister Hanna Tetteh has expressed concerns about the Supreme Court’s consideration of public sentiment in important rulings.
In a Facebook post, she questioned whether the justices consider the wider societal implications of their decisions, especially following a recent ex-parte ruling against the Speaker’s directive.
MadamTetteh asked if the court considers how its rulings are perceived by sectors such as the business community, civil society, and international actors.
While acknowledging the judiciary’s duty to uphold the law impartially, Madam Tetteh emphasized the significance of their decisions within a politically charged environment, particularly with elections approaching. She stressed that a strong judiciary is crucial not only for upholding democracy, but also for ensuring its prosperity.
Her comments have sparked discussions as the judiciary faces increased scrutiny over its handling of politically sensitive cases.
