Alan Kyerematen, Independent Presidential Candidate and Founder of the Movement for Change (M4C) and the Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC), has formally raised concerns over the integrity of the current Voters Register.
In a letter addressed to the EC, Mr Kyerematen and his movement pointed out reports of compromised data within the Voters Register, an issue that the Electoral Commission has acknowledged.
The EC has confirmed that it is conducting internal procedures to rectify the anomalies, but Kyerematen expressed dissatisfaction with how these issues are being addressed.
To safeguard the credibility of the elections, Kyerematen’s Movement for Change has proposed a series of measures aimed at ensuring the Voters Register gains universal acceptance. The key proposal is the establishment of a Technical Working Group (TWG), which would be chaired by the EC. This group would include representatives of all presidential candidates, as well as consultants responsible for managing the EC’s data.
The purpose of the TWG would be to oversee a comprehensive audit of the Voters Register, focusing on source documents such as the final 2020 Voters Register, limited registration data since 2021, voter transfers, and special voters lists.
In the letter, Mr. Kyerematen emphasized the importance of transparency in the audit process, stating, “Each member of the Technical Working Group ought to be provided access to original copies of the listed source documents, and facilitated to determine the veracity of the entries in the said documents.”
The Movement for Change has further requested that any candidates with documented evidence of compromised data in the Voters Register submit their findings to the Technical Working Group before the audit begins.
The final outcome of this collaborative audit, Mr. Kyerematen argues, would serve as the definitive Voters Register for the 2024 elections.
Alan Kyerematen and his movement believe that this approach will resolve any remaining issues concerning the Voters Register and ensure a free, fair, transparent, and credible election on December 7, 2024.
