The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced that Virgin Atlantic will resume its flights to Ghana in May 2025. This marks a significant milestone for the nation’s aviation sector.
With the addition of Virgin Atlantic, Kotoka International Airport will now host 25 international airlines, further cementing Ghana’s reputation as a key aviation hub in West Africa.

Virgin Atlantic’s daily flights will be operated using the advanced Boeing 787 Dreamliner, a move that reflects growing confidence in Ghana’s aviation industry. This development aligns with the strategic goals of GACL to position Ghana as a leader in airport operations and a preferred destination for international airlines.

Expressing the company’s enthusiasm, GACL’s Managing Director, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, highlighted the importance of this partnership. “We are delighted to welcome Virgin Atlantic back to Ghana. Their return not only signifies the strength of our aviation sector but also enhances the travel experience at Kotoka International Airport,” she said.

In response to the increasing number of airlines, Mrs. Opare revealed that GACL plans to optimize the use of Kotoka International Airport’s Terminal 2. By redistributing airline operations between Terminals 2 and 3, GACL aims to reduce congestion, shorten queues, and improve overall efficiency for passengers and airlines alike.

As preparations for Virgin Atlantic’s return are finalized, GACL promises to share more details with the public following stakeholder consultations. The airline’s renewed presence in Ghana is expected to offer travelers more connectivity options, facilitating easier access to global destinations.
