The Electoral Commission (EC) has decided not to proceed with plans to remove the guarantor system for the upcoming limited voter registration exercise.
This announcement came during the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting aimed at discussing the electoral calendar.
At the meeting, it was confirmed that indelible ink will be used in the 2024 election, and the guarantor system will remain in place for the upcoming registration exercise. This decision addresses concerns raised by political parties.
Dr. Omane Boamah, Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed approval of the revised calendar, saying he was satisfied with the outcome of the meeting chaired by Jean Mensa, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
Mr Evans Nimako, Director of Elections for the NPP, said while the party opposes any misuse of the guarantor system, they will support its proper implementation. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that only eligible individuals are included on the electoral roll.
