The Technical Committee for the African Games (TCAG) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) have interacted with the Minister for Youth & Sports, Mustapha Ussif, on the progress of preparations for the 13th edition of the African Games, to be hosted by Ghana in March 2024.
The meeting was part of a series of joint consultations between the TCAG and the LOC, to ensure the successful hosting of the continental multi-sport event.
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, gave assurance of the government’s commitment to providing the necessary resources and support for the African Games. He described this opportunity as historic, allowing Ghana to showcase its hospitality, culture, and development to the rest of the continent and the world. He mentioned the near completion of facilities at Borteyman and the University of Ghana, emphasizing the dedication to delivering top-notch infrastructure for the event.
Ambassador Minata Samate Cessouma, the Chair of the TCAG and the AU Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development, commended the efforts of the Ghanaian authorities and the LOC. She urged them to maintain the current momentum and the high quality of preparations.
Additionally, she emphasized that the games serve not only as a platform for sporting excellence but also as a means to enhance human and social development, foster economic growth, and promote political cooperation among African nations.
The 13th African Games are scheduled to take place from 8th to 23rd March 2024. This will be the first time Ghana hosts this continental multi-sport event, featuring over 22 sports disciplines and welcoming more than 5,000 athletes from 54 African countries
