The High Court in Ho has issued an order for serving court documents to John-Peter Amewu, the Member of Parliament for the Hohoe Constituency, through substituted service.

The court, presided over by His Lordship Justice Yaw Owoahene-Acheampong instructed that the documents should be delivered by posting them on the notice boards of the Ho and Accra High Courts; and a copy of the documents should be left with his secretary at the Ministry of Railways in Accra.

The court made the order on October 16, 2023, in response to a motion filed by Professor Margaret kweku of AH-066, Hohoe-Ahado; Simon Alan Opoku-Minta of GCA 053 Obetsa-Santrokofi Benua; John kwame Obimpeh of AOD-A 427, Odomi, Akpafu; Godfred koku kofie of lbk 234, Aya Street, Likpe Bakua; and Felix Quarshie of House No. LKU 137 Lolobi-Kumasi.

It could be recalled that the Ho High Court, presided over by Justice George Buadi in December 2020 granted an interim injunction restraining the Electoral Commission from gazetting the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) John Peter Amewu as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Hohoe.

This was after an ex-parte application was argued in court by Tsatsu Tsikata on behalf of applicants who hail from Santrokofi Akpafu Likpe and Lolobi, towns who were prevented from voting in the parliamentary elections of December 7, 2020, under the Hohoe constituency as was constituted under CI 95.

However, the court bailiff, who went to serve a court document on the former Energy Minister, who was attending a victory party, was whisked away from the premises in a black V8 vehicle and allegedly tortured.

Mr. Amewu won the seat with 26,952 votes in his third attempt at becoming the parliamentary representative for Hohoe while his National Democratic Congress (NDC) opponent, Margaret Kweku, polled 21,821 votes.
